USA Shock Spain In Confederations Cup Semi-final

USA vs Spain

The USA pulled off a shock 2-0 victory over European champions Spain in the semi-finals of the Confederation Cup on Wednesday. The defeat ended Spain’s amazing run of 35 games unbeaten. The goals came from Jozy Altidore, who ironically plays his club football with Villarreal of Spain and Fulham’s Clint Dempsey with 15 minutes remaining. It was an incredible result which nobody could have predicted and a lot of people in the football betting world will be a lot richer for it.

The USA were amazing underdogs given absolutely no chance of beating their illustrious rivals, yet somehow they managed to defeat the Spaniards. Maybe that result gives South Africa hope in their semi-final game against South American giants Brazil. In Soccer betting terms Bafana Bafana are big underdogs against the most successful team in international football.

For the host nation the tournaments a dress rehearsal for World Cup 2010, when they will be hoping to make a big impression. If the home side can make the final against the USA it will be a massive boost for the first country ever chosen to host a World Cup finals. It would also be a big surprise for those to bet on football.

Few will be putting their hard earned money on the South Africans, but as we saw with the USA, anything can happen in football. Yet it’s Brazil that are still big favorites not only to win the semi-final, but also the final on Sunday.

I was hoping that David Beckham would raise the enthusiasm for football in America but was disappointed with what has happened
