Football Transfers – August 2009 (Part 2)
Tottenham have completed the signing of Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong for a fee in the region of £8million. Tottenham have sold striker Darren Bent to Sunderland for £10million. Sunderland have also expressed an interest in former West Ham defender Lucas Neill, who left the Hammers when his contract expired at the end of the season.
Aston Villa have completed a double swoop this week signing Leeds promising midfielder Fabien Delph for a fee believed to be £6million and Newcastle defender Habib Beye has also joined the Midlander’s for an undisclosed fee.
Meanwhile Hull City have completed the season-long loan of Jozy Altidore from Villarreal, with a view to a permanent move. Nigerian midfielder Seyi Olofinjana has also joined the Tigers in a £3million deal. Phil Brown’s side could make it a triple swoop with former Wigan striker Henri Camara in discussions over a move to the KC Stadium.
Liverpool are being linked with a move for Hull centre-back Michael Turner, the former Charlton trainee impressed in his debut Premier League season last season and has been linked with a move since the end of the season. Midfielder Xabi Alonso finally completed his £30million move to Real Madrid on Wednesday, after weeks of negotiations between the clubs.
Liverpool moved fast to replace the Spanish international with Roma playmaker Alberto Aquilani, the Italian international cost the Anfield outfit £20million. Premier League newcomers Wolves are considering signing former Celtic defender Bobo Balde, who has been training with the club during pre-season. Mick McCarthy side have also expressed an interest in Reading midfielder James Harper, the former Arsenal trainee may make the move in the next week.
