The January Transfer Window Starts to Pick up Pace

Transfer Window 2009

Last week, the January transfer window opened. A month for teams to bring in new players either on permanent deals or loan deals to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season and beyond. With the short time span of the window, it is known that most of the action comes in the first fortnight with managers eager to close deals before it’s too late.

Some managers though, have all ready done some business within the first week. These include Manchester City signing Chelsea’s Wayne Bridge, for a reported fee of between £10-12 Million. The red half of Manchester has also been active so far in January, adding two of Serbia’s brightest talents in Adem Ljajic and Toran Tosic for an undisclosed fee. The club that has spent the most though so far, is Real Madrid who have splashed out on both defensive minded midfielder Lassana Diarra and striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar from Ajax.

Transfer rumors will also continue to fly around throughout the month of January. Rumors that currently look like a possibility include Arshavin to Arsenal, Blackburn’s Santa Cruz could be moving to Manchester City and Rangers Kris Boyd could be moving to English Championship side Birmingham City.

With all the transfer speculation around, and the fact that we’re just under a week into the January transfer window means that there are plenty more deals set to happen in the top European leagues. Certainly, an exciting time for football fans all over the World.
