Santa Cruz Heads For Manchester City
Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz is set to move to Manchester City in a £18million move from Blackburn. The Rovers forward has reported passed a medical at Eastlands ahead of his proposed move. He’s been a long-term target for Mark Hughes ever since he became manager of City and it looks like the former Welsh international has finally got his man.
There has been speculation about the player’s future since he admitted that he wanted to move to a bigger club. Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce didn’t want to sell the star, but knew that if he didn’t he would have an unhappy player that didn’t want to play for the club. It’s ironic that if the move does go through Santa Cruz could make his competitive debut at Ewood Park against his old teammates.
City boss Hughes is expecting to sign a host of top players this summer. Manchester United’s Carlos Tevez is expected to join the Citizens, after the Argentine international rejected a new five year contract at Old Trafford. A new defender is also a priority with Arsenal’s Kolo Toure on his wish list, the Ivory Coast international is rated at £12million.
Everton centre back Joleon Lescott has also been linked with the mega-rich club, but the Toffee’s are unlikely to sell the England ace. The star has become a key player in the heart of their defence and it would take a substantial offer to tempt the Merseyside club into selling.
