Liverpool exit Champions League as United lose at home

Liverpool exited the Champions League despite beating Hungarian champions 1-0 in Budapest. The visitors made the perfect start as striker David N’Gog gave them the lead after just four minutes. Liverpool were eliminated after Italian side Fiorentina beat Lyon 1-0 in Florence to secure their place in the knockout stages. The Serie A side scored the only goal of the game in the 29th minute through defender Juan Vargas. The victory took the Viola to the top group E.

Manchester United suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Besiktas at Old Trafford. The only goal of the game came in the 20th minute as Russian midfielder Murat Izmailov deflected an effort past Ben Foster in the United goal. United remain top of Group B despite the defeat and only need a point in their last game away at second place Wolfsburg to progress as group winners.

Chelsea sealed top stop in group D with a 1-0 win at Porto. The only goal of the game came from striker Nicolas Anelka in the 69th minute. Both clubs were already guaranteed progression into the knockout stages before the game but Chelsea will go through as group winners.

Barcelona moved top of group F with a 2-0 victory over Italian champions Inter at the Nou Camp. The European champions took the lead on ten minutes through defender Gerard Pique. Their lead was doubled in the 26th minute through young midfielder Pedro Rodriguez. The victory moved Barca from bottom of the group to top of the group in a topsy turvy table.
