Burnley are on the brink of signing Reading defender Andre Bikey for a fee close to £3million. The Cameroon defender has decided to move to Burnley in a bid to appear for his national team at next year’s World Cup. Ghana defender John Mensah looks set to sign for Sunderland on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal from French club Lyon.
Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross is being linked with moves to former club Manchester United and Liverpool, with the 21 year-old rated at £5million. Newcastle centre-back Steven Taylor has also been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool, but Everton and Tottenham are also believed to be in the hunt for the England under-21 star. The Magpies rate the talented defender at £10million.
Portsmouth have clinched the season-long loan signing of Genoa defender Anthony Vanden Borre. The Belgian international started his career with Anderlecht and made his international debut at just 16. Portsmouth have also handed Nigerian striker Kanu a one-year contract extension. Pompey are also being linked with a move for Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez and former Wigan striker Amr Zaki.
Wigan have completed the signing of Rayo Vallecano defender Antonio Amaya for an undisclosed fee. The Latics are also negotiations to sign his club colleague Mohamed Diame, talks are ongoing. Sunderland have captured Wigan midfielder Lee Cattermole for an initial £6million, which could rise to £8million depending on appearances. Fulham defender Brede Hangeland is being heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal, although Everton and Manchester City have also been linked with the Norwegian international.
