European champions lose as Milan shock Real
European champions Barcelona suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Russian champions Rubin Kazan. The Russians took the lead in the 2nd minute through a brilliant Alexander Ryazantsev strike. Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised for the Spanish champions just after the break.
However despite Barca’s second half dominance it was Rubin who scored the winner in the 73rd minute, Turkish midfielder Gokdeniz Karadeniz the goalscorer. Barca pushed and probed but Rubin hung on for a historic victory.
AC Milan caused a slight surprise with a 3-2 victory at Real Madrid. Real took the lead in the 19th minute through Raul after a terrible blooper from Milan keeper Dida. Milan looked out of the game until the 62nd minute when midfielder Andrea Pirlo unleashed an unstoppable drive.
Real keeper Iker Casillas then produced a clanger as he misjudged Massimo Ambrosini’s long past and Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato had the simple task of finding an empty net. Real equalised through a superb drive from Royston Drenthe from the edge of area. Pato scored his brace in the 87th minute. The Brazilian volleyed home the winner to seal an unlikely victory for the Rossoneri.
Premier League Liverpool suffered their fourth straight defeat as Lyon came away from Anfield with a 2-1 victory. Liverpool took the lead through Yossi Benayoun in the 41st minute. Lyon equalised in the 73rd minute through substitute Maxime Gonalons. It got even worst for Rafa Benitez’s side in injury time as Argentinean striker Cesar Delgado struck for the French side.
