Big Three win but Tottenham lead the way
Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea all claimed victories this weekend. Manchester United recovered from their midweek defeat to Burnley by demolishing Wigan 5-0 at the DW Stadium. Wayne Rooney scored his 100th and 101st goals for United, with Dimitar Berbatov striking in between to make it 3-0. Michael Owen scored his first ever United goal for United to make it four, the relief and joy on his face was noticeable. Nani scored a superb free-kick in injury time to complete the rout.
Arsenal hammered Portsmouth 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Abou Diaby scored a brace to celebrate his 100th appearance for the Gunners. Portsmouth defender Younes Kaboul headed Pompey back in to the game, before the break but William Gallas made it 3-1 with a scrappy effort. Aaron Ramsey completed the scoring late on to make it a convincing win.
Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 at Craven Cottage. Didier Drogba gave the Blues the lead in the first half and despite dominating couldn’t find a second goal until the 76th minute. French striker Nicolas Anelka scoring after good interplay with striker partner Drogba.
Despite all those victories Tottenham are top of the table after winning 2-1 at West Ham. Carlton Cole put the Hammers in to the lead with a superb effort, before the striker made a terrible error to allow fellow England striker Jermain Defoe to nip in for an equaliser. With just ten minutes remaining Aaron Lennon scored the winner, with a brilliant curling effort. Tottenham are top of the Premier League with three victories from three games.
