Are Benzema and Eto’o finding new clubs this summer?
The big transfer stories this week have involved some of the top strikers in Europe. Speculation continues over the future of Lyon youngster Karim Benzema, who has been linked with Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal. The French starlets club however believes that he will stay at the club till after next summer’s World Cup. The former French champions have also stated they have received a bid from Real Madrid, but the bid has been described as ‘not very realistic’ by Lyon’s director of communications Olivier Blanc.
Samuel Eto’o is another top striker who has attracted interest this summer and Manchester City are believed to have bid £25million for the Cameroon international. It’s believed that the striker would rather stay at Barcelona another year then move to City. If he does stay at the Camp Nou then he will be able to leave on a free transfer next summer, when his contract expires. However City are prepared to make him a reported offer of £250,000 a week and the player could be persuaded to sign for that kind of money.
England right back Glen Johnson has joined Liverpool from Portsmouth for a fee of £17.5million. The player had his most consistent season last season and hopes that Champions League football next season will guarantee him a place at next year’s World Cup. Wigan’s winger Antonio Valencia is set to join Manchester United in the next few days, in a deal worth £16million. The Ecuadorean is likely to replace the outgoing Cristiano Ronaldo on United’s right wing.
